If two cities in Europe define the word romance, then surely it must be the French capital and Italy’s iconic town on the lagoon. Both are steeped in history and atmosphere, offering some of the most beautiful urban vistas in the world, and as such there can be no better way to experience the two than via an overnight train journey on board the Orient Express, arguably the most prestigious mode of transport on the planet; where magnificent food is matched by grandiose interiors, where relaxation is paramount as you cross the continent, taking sumptuous scenery whilst engaging in pure indulgence.
Day 1
Arrive at the train station the famous Gare d l Est train station in Paris to climb aboard the beautifully restored Venice Simplon-Orient Express, where the steward will be waiting to show you to your private cabin. Once you have settled you’ll soon be sitting down in one of the splendid restaurant cars to gorge the tastebuds on an international standard four course dinner, prepared by highly trained French chefs.
Once the evening meal is over you are free to retire the luxurious confines of your private cabin which, upon returning, will have been transformed into an opulent bedroom worthy of the finest hotels imaginable. Or, alternatively, join your fellow travellers for a nightcap in the Bar Car, where a wonderful selection of liquors, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages is waiting to be sampled before heading off to sleep.
Day 2
Wake at your leisure to discover yourself meandering through some of Europe’s most magnificent countryside, with breakfast brought to your cabin at a time to suit you. After you have refueled make a beeline for the Bar Car to join the other passengers watching the world go by whilst enjoying freshly made coffee, or perhaps something a little stronger. Or why not simply sit back and make the most of your private quarters.
Lunch will then be served in the form of a delectable three-course feast, again situated in one of our wonderful Restaurant Cars, at which point you are free to head back to your personal onboard retreat, or socialise at the bar whilst taking in the majesty of Italy’s Dolomite Mountains, before afternoon tea is served in your cabin to round off the day. Finally, watch as you cross the lagoon toward Venice’s Santa Lucia Station, where your journey reaches its conclusion.
