Of the world’s great train journeys, one unarguably boasts more prestige than any other. Departing from London’s historic Victoria Station, the Venice Simplon Orient Express is among the most famous rail routes on the planet, and for good reason. This is, after all, the same journey people have been taking for almost a century, crossing Western Europe and passing by some of the continent’s most iconic scenery along the way. Beginning in arguably the greatest capital city, and winding up in what could be the most beautiful town on the face of the Earth, this is a fantastic way to experience luxury travel as it was in the grand age of steam.
Day 1
Arriving at London Victoria Station the British Pullman and its stunning carriages await you. With the help of a professional steward, you will be shown to your reserved seat and have your bags taken to the cabin. Next, enjoy a lunch on the move as you pass through the Garden of England, Kent, while sipping on a Bellini.
Once over the Channel, board the iconic Venice Simplon Orient Express train, where, in addition to the lavish interiors, skilled French chefs will prepare a four-course dinner of international standard. After gorging on some of the finest cuisine known to mankind you’re then free to enjoy some late-evening drinks or simply retire to find your cabin converted into a delightful bedroom.
Day 2
Waking to find yourself rolling through some magnificently mountainous European countryside, breakfast will be served in your cabin at a time to suit you, leaving you free to enjoy a relaxing morning in transit. Spend the remainder of the time either lounging in the room or sitting at the bar discussing the journey so far.
Lunch will be served early-afternoon, and you can expect the same standards as the previous night’s meal, with three courses ready to be eaten in a suitably long, European-style as you snake through Italy’s Dolomites and foothills. Finally, enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea back in your cabin before pulling into Santa Lucia Station after crossing Venice’s famous lagoon, leaving you in the middle of the City of Canals, ready to explore the charming and atmospheric streets and waterways.
