In terms of European capitals, it’s difficult to think of any more beautiful than Paris and Budapest. Respectively steeped in Romance and faded grandeur, with remnants of opulent empires around every corner, both have enough iconic buildings to keep any visitor satisfied, not to mention an abundance of art galleries, museums and historic sites of interest. To see both in one fell swoop then would be a trip of dreams, not least if you do it onboard one of the world’s most prestigious trains the Venice Simplon-Orient Express.
Day 1
Arrive at Budapest train station to find the spectacular Venice Simplon-Orient Express waiting for you to board, with the steward on hand to show you to your painstakingly restored cabin. After settling in, enjoy a delicious brunch in one of the beautiful Restaurant Cars, indulging all the senses as you take in the passing view across some of Central Europe’s most beautiful scenery.
Later, afternoon tea will be served back in your cabin, affording the opportunity to take some time out in your personal onboard retreat. Once suitably recharged, head to the Bar Car for delectable drinks whilst sitting back and enjoying the sounds of the baby grand piano. Next it’s time for an international standard four-course dinner, prepared by our highly trained chefs, before either retiring to your cabin, which has now been transformed into a cosy bedroom, or making a beeline for the bar to enjoy a late night tipple.
Day 2
Awake to find yourself meandering through France, drawing ever-closer to the capital, with a continental breakfast delivered to your cabin, at a time of your choosing by the steward. Finally, roll into the prestigious Gar D l Est train station in Paris, where your short but memorably odyssey reaches its conclusion.
