Itinerary
Day one
Board Belmond Orcaella at its mooring in Yangon and enjoy a relaxing breakfast as we start our journey to Bagan.
After lunch, enjoy an introductory lecture about the heritage buildings we are sailing past along the Ayeyarwady River.
A welcome cocktail party and introduction to the ship’s officers precedes dinner from Executive Chef and team.
Day two
This morning visit Danuphyu, a historically important town during the Anglo-Burmese War. See General Maha Bandula memorial at Pali University, followed by a trip to a cheroot maker and local tea shops
Afternoon tea is accompanied by a lecture on poets and writers in Myanmar.
Traditional Myanmar folk dancing is your after-dinner entertainment tonight.
Day three
Spend the day relaxing on board as we make our way towards the ancient Myanmar capital of Pyay.
Take in the sights and sounds of the river, or make use of the luxurious ship facilities.
On board entertainment today includes cookery, astrology and a longyi (traditional dress) tying demonstration. Wear your longyi at this evening’s pre-dinner cocktail party.
Day four
Arrive in Pyay in the morning and disembark for a visit to the impressive Shwesadaw Pagoda and ten-storey Buddha in Sri Ksetra.
Return to Belmond Orcaella and spend the rest of the afternoon sailing through the stunning scenery.
Day five
After a full morning sailing, enjoy an afternoon stop to explore the quaint Gwechaung village by ox-cart for first-hand experience of the rural lifestyle along the Ayeyarwady River.
This evening dinner is served at Min Hla Fort, the site of a great battle during the third Anglo-Burmese War.
Day six
This morning we arrive at the trade port of Magwe. Enjoy a tuk tuk tour of the busy market and see the famous Myathalon Pagoda.
Afternoon tea is accompanied by a lecture. After-dinner entertainment is a Myanmar puppet show.
Day seven
This morning disembark for Sale to view the exquisite 19th century wooden monastery Yout-Saun-Kyaung. A bus excursion takes in the most important sights of Bagan.
Lunch is at the Sunset Garden restaurant in Bagan.
Day eight
Join in the morning excursion of Bagan and visit the Shwezigon Pagoda, the bustling market and Min Nan Thu.
This afternoon there is a choice of activities. Travel to the villages of Gu Byauk Gyi and Pwa Saw, or take a private horse and cart or bicycle tour within the city of Bagan.
Enjoy the evening’s farewell cocktail party and entertainment before your final dinner on board.
Day nine
Disembark after breakfast for your onward journey.
