From bustling metropoles to quaint towns and historic cities, stunning countryside and world-famous landmarks, there’s no end to the possibilities. Travelling through this incredibly varied landscape onboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman is one of the great overland odysseys, offering a fabulous insight into the culture, people and places as you make a way from Edinburgh to London.
Day 1
Depart Edinburgh Waverley station mid-afternoon to quickly find yourself passing through the majestic countryside around Berwick-upon-Tweed. Leave the train behind for an insightful tour of Alnwick Castle, among the largest inhabited medieval fortifications in England, and certainly one of the most impressive. Climb back aboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman for cocktails and a fabulous informal dinner, before indulging in a nightcap and finally retiring to bed.
Day 2
Following a wonderful breakfast you will arrive in the city of York, made famous by Viking settlers. From the protective walls still largely intact to the iconic castle and quaint streets such as The Shambles, spend your time soaking up the centuries of history, browsing for souvenirs, or simply exploring the secrets of this fascinating town.
Next, board the Belmond Royal Scotsman again to enjoy a sumptuous lunch as we head towards Norfolk, disembarking for a private reception and evening tour of Sandringham House, a favourite getaway for Her Majesty the Queen and one of England’s finest country piles.
Day 3
Arrive in one of the country’s most famous seats of academia, Cambridge, where you will be treated to a private tour of King’s College, before moving on to see the ancient tomes at the Parker Library and finally taking a punt along the River Cam. Then climb back onto the train for a splendid formal dinner, complete with onboard entertainment, before heading to bed, concluding another wonderful day.
Day 4
Wake to a wonderful breakfast at your leisure, and take some time to reflect on the overall journey whilst enjoying wonderful views of the passing countryside of Hertfordshire. Arriving into London Victoria Station mid-morning, your odyssey reaches its conclusion, leaving you free to enjoy your own unique adventure in the UK capital.
