Antigua is one of the sunniest islands in the eastern Caribbean, blessed with hundreds of soft, sandy beaches. It’s also the region’s top water sport destination.
For this relaxing break we have a beautiful hotel on the shores of one of the most stunning bays in the Caribbean. The added extras make this a truly luxurious escape. Antigua is a delight the commercial capital, St John’s, is a hive of colourful, sun-bleached wooden shops and businesses lining narrow streets. It is also entirely walkable – from the waterfront south to the National Cricket Stadium just outside the city – in about a quarter of an hour.
Past Falmouth on the south coast is historic Nelson’s Dockyard, fringing English Harbour. This piece of living history is the world’s only fully preserved Georgian Naval dockyard, dating back to the 18th century.
Other main sights include the almost always deserted Sandy Cove in Nonsuch Bay, Devil’s Bridge, a remarkable coastal arch on the north eastern point and Half Moon Bay, possibly the most beautiful of all Antigua’s beaches. Ask anyone for directions to Shirley Heights, rising above the harbour, for the most panoramic of Antigua’s views, savoured from the comfort of a small restaurant. It’s also worth renting a car or a driver and exploring the island’s more remote corners. Whatever you choose to indulge in, there’s always the time in Antigua
