With some of India’s most notable landmarks en route, the Maharajas Express Indian Splendour Journey is one of life’s great experiences. Travelling on board a truly opulent train, sights such as the Taj Mahal, Rajasthan’s forts, and the Ranthambore National Park all make up waypoints along the way, ensuring that you get to see the finest scenery, sites of historic interest, and beauty spots the sub-continent has to offer.

Itinerary

Day One
Arrive at Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station for welcome and check in. Dinner on board will then follow, with departure for Agra taking place in the early nighttime, bound for Agra.

Day Two
Arriving into Agra early morning, a visit to the Taj Mahal follows, and then on to a champagne breakfast at the Taj Khema. Returning to the Maharajas Express you will then have the opportunity to indulge in a spa treatment at a deluxe hotel, or visit Itmad-ud-duala, or take a private shopping tour of the area.

Lunch back on board the train will be served early afternoon, before a trip to Agra Fort, or alternatively opt for a spa treatment, private shopping tour, or sightseeing at Itmad-ud-duala or Fatehpur Sikri.

Rejoin the rest of the passengers for an evening spent relaxing on the Express, or watch the famous Mohabbat The Taj Show, before dinner on board and a late-evening departure for Sawai Madhopur.

Day Three
Wake early for a game drive at Ranthambore National Park, before returning to the train mid-morning for a relaxed brunch back on board. Just before midday the Express will depart for Jaipur, one of the highlights of the trip, arriving early afternoon followed by a visit to the Amber Fort. Alternatively, choose from a selection of optional activities, such use of the spa facilities at a Palace hotel, private shopping tour, golfing at Rambagh Golf Club, or a visit to the City Palace and Observatory (Jantar Mantar).

Day Four
Enjoy a later wake-up call and breakfast on board as the train passes through stunning Indian countryside. Arriving into Bikaner mid-morning, either opt to relax on board, take a trip to the Lalgarh Museum, or Rat Temple at Deshnok.

Lunch will be served back on the train, followed by a visit to Junagarth Fort. As afternoon turns into evening it’s time for sundowners at the Sand Dunes, stopping for tea along the way at Gajner Palace. Following the sundowners, return to the Maharajas Express for an early-nighttime departure towards Jodhpur.

Day Five
Breakfast will be served on board as you arrive into Jodhpur, with an optional tour to Bishnoi Village or a spa hotel commencing mid-morning. Lunch on board follows, and then it’s on to the Mehrangarth Fort for sightseeing.

Next, take a walking tour of the Clock Tower Market, relax at the spa, or visit the remarkable Umaid Bhawan Palace and Jaswant Thada. Alternatively, opt for a shopping tour. Once evening descends, it’s time for an exclusive cocktail dinner at Hanwant Mahal, before rejoining the Maharajas Express, with a nighttime departure bound for Udaipur.

Day Six
Breakfast on board will be served mid-morning, with arrival into Udaipur shortly thereafter. Next, take a boat ride on Lake Pichola, followed by a visit to City Palace and the Crystal Gallery.

Lunch in the early afternoon will take place at the spectacular Fateh Prakash Palace, returning to the train for a relaxed afternoon. Or, instead choose to spend some time in a five-star hotel spa, or splash some cash on a private shopping tour.

Day Seven
Breakfast is served on board in the early morning, preparing passengers for their arrival into Sevalia Station. From there you will be taken to the Dinosaur Fossil Park, with a village walking tour soon after. Next, on to the Garden Palace, Balasinor, with a Grand Welcome followed by a lunch hosted by the Royal Family of Balasinor. Climbing back aboard the Maharajas Express mid-afternoon, the train will proceed for Mumbai with an Indian Evening and dinner on board, en route.

Day Eight
Enjoy your final breakfast on board as the train draws closer to the Indian city of Mumbai, arriving at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus mid-morning, leaving you free to explore this world famous destination at your own pace, beginning another adventure of your own making.
